ABSTRACT

Hereby, a brief report on the background of radiotherapy in dermatology in general and specially in Mexico is presented. The names of Mexican dermatologists who gathered some experience in radiotherapy, are presented. It is highlighted the downfall of radiotherapy in dermatology and some possible causes are explored. We also present a list of possible indications for radiotherapy and its possible advantages in certain anatomical areas. It will be discussed the case of a female patient with a large tumor on the left half of the upper lip, which corresponded to a lymphocitoma cutis. The various therapeutic options are discussed and why radiotherapy was chosen. It was carried out in five sessions, achieving a total involution of the lesion. The patient has remained tumor free two years after completion of the treatment.
