ABSTRACT
The keratocystic odontogenic tumor is a condition associated with tooth retention, particularly of the third molar. It is recognized as being potentially highly destructive, by eroding cortical plates overlying the oral mucosa and soft tissues. The etiology of keratocystic odontogenic tumor is probably related to the development of the dental lamina (or remains of Serres) and the recurrence rate is high compared to that of other odontogenic tumors, the reason for their reclassification by the WHO in 2005. We present a clinical case of a keratocystic odontogenic tumor in the right maxillary sinus, including an explanation of the methods used for clinical and radiological examination, and the chosen surgical treatment.
