ABSTRACT

Background: Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is the most common congenital alteration on pediatric orthopedics, the incidence is controversial, in Mexico there are around 2 to 6 cases per 1,000 live births and is the principal cause on petriatric orthopedics hospitalizations. Clinical examination is the base line for diagnosis and should be performed at birth, medical imaging studies are supportive but important for the realization of this study.
Objetive: To know the frequency of the developmental dysplasia of the hip at the ISSSTE ¨Ignacio Zaragoza General¨ Regional Hospital.
Material and Method: Descriptive, retrospective and observational study. A systematic review was performed with the ISSSTE ¨Ignacio Zaragoza General¨ Regional Hospital newborn patient´s records. Our universe of study envolve 4,466 newborns, form wich 2,239 were female (50.13%) and 2,227 were male (49.86%).
Results: Patients were classified into two groups: diagnosed at birth and taken from external medical consultation. From the cases mentioned above, these correspond to a total of 69 DDH cases, 50 (72.46%) diagnosed at birth and 19 (27.53%) diagnosed at external medical consultation. With a prevalence of 15 per 1,000 live births.
Conclusion: talking about congenital alterations at birth is the principal diagnosis and in pediatric orthopedic treatment too, female gender is highly affected and the most common at newborns.
