ABSTRACT

Kokuria kristinae pertaining to the Kokuria type, belonging to the Micrococcaceae family. It has been identified 17 strict aerobic species with the exception of K. kristinae which is facultative. The recognized species as pathogens in human beings are “K”. Kristinae, K. rosea, K. varians, K. marina and K. rhizophila are grouped coccus in clusters or tetrads, Catalase positive, Coagulase negative. Clinical case: We presented the first case published of Kokuria kristinae septic osteoarthritis in a 11 year-old female patient with an idiopathic avascular necrosis, without an apparent immunocompromised. The synovial fluid sample was taken by puncturing the astragalus-escafoidea/ talonavicular joint from the tarsal region of the foot. Patient was treated with a Beta-Lactam with favorable evolution. Conclusions: This case amplifies the clinical presentation of infections caused by K. kristinae. Over time, we will have better knowledge of its clinical behavior.
