ABSTRACT

Superior mesenteric artery syndrome or Wilkie’s syndrome is an infrequent obstructive intestinal pathology related to an abnormal anatomy and topography of the duodenum, aorta and the superior mesenteric artery. This is due to a partial obstruction of the third part of the duodenum caused by the compression of the aorta and the superior mesenteric artery. Since 1980 international literature has reported nearly 400 cases in pediatric patients. Our objective is to illustrate this sydrome through a case of an eight-year old child who had a decrease of the aorta mesenteric angle that caused reoccurring abdominal pain and symptomps of proximal intestinal obstruction. The diagnosis is done through a CT scan in 95% of the cases. The clinical characteristics, diagnostic approach through CT scan and the treatment will be discussed.
