Comparison of two rehabilitation treatments in Fulkerson surgery

ABSTRACT
Introduction: Fulkerson described an osteotomy technique that decreases the patellofemoral contact. Complications of this technique are changes in bone healing, recommending a progressive rehabilitation regime. The experience in this institute indicates there are two streams, one that indicates partial support immediately and another that differs it up to eight weeks, both with satisfactory developments.
Material and methods: 27 patients who underwent surgery for Fulkerson osteotomy were evaluated from January 2011 to December 2015. Obtaining data on somatometry and transsurgical findings. Two imaging studies were evaluated, first and third month after surgery, using two assessment scales for bone healing process in both cases.
Results: There was no significant difference from the partial support immediately and differs weight bearing, neither the first month nor third month.
Conclusions: We cannot support the hypothesis that early support accelerates the consolidation process, but it has the benefit of starting early gait with greater independence and reintegration of patients.
