ABSTRACT

A descriptive study was carried out in the intensive care unit of the General Hospital ¨Dr. Agostinho Neto¨ de Guantánamo during the year 2015 with the aim of specifying the influence of psychological factors on the success of non-invasive mechanical ventilation. In the patients studied, the relationship of success or failure of this therapy with psychological symptoms is specified. The technique fails in 34.7% of patients; mainly due to the appearance of psychological symptoms, such as the present anxiety in its totality. The patient's age, sex and previous experience with therapy do not determine the failure of its application; it does the limited information of the patient regarding the therapeutics, their suitability for proceeding and their assessment of their disease.
