ABSTRACT

Cryptococcosis is an opportunistic mycosis caused by yeasts of the genus Cryptococcus. This fungus can cause disease especially in immunosuppressed patients. The fungus can proliferate at the site of the initial infection and compromise any organ or system through the bloodstream. Some authors have argued that, in cryptococcosis, cutaneous involvement is always part of an inhaled systemic infection, even when lesions are localized. Other authors argue that there are cases with only skin involvement. Our aim is to analyze and to compare the evolution of our four transplanted patients with cryptococcosis, discuss the literature, laboratory methods, and possible treatments.
