ABSTRACT

Objective: to describe the knee isokinetic muscular strength and its association with clinical manifestations in women with articular hypermobility syndrome. Methods: a transversal descriptive study was performed to patients who were treated in the Rehabilitation and Physical Medical Service in the "Centro Nacional de Reumatología, Hospital Clínico Quirúrgico 10 de Octubre" with articular hypermobility syndrome. 87 patients were assessed taking into account the presence of clinical manifestations associated to the articular hypermobility syndrome that were reported in the records. They were performed the isokinetic dynamometry of the knee flexor-extensor musculature for the assessment of the muscular strength. Results: the isokinetic muscular strength was diminished. Among women with diminished muscular strength, the presence of articular pain, tiredness and fatigue as well as hematomas were predominant. Conclusions: in most of the patients, there was a decrease of the muscular strength when the isokinetic assessment was performed. The presence of clinical manifestations and musculo-skeletal lesions were predominant and this demonstrates a strong association between them.
