ABSTRACT

School climate and parental involvement in studies have shown to be associated with school settings with greater strengths. The aim of this study was to determine the perception of two samples of primary school children on school climate and parental involvement in their studies. The sample included a total of 189 school children from two elementary schools in communities near Mexico City, which differ in levels of social backwardness (Ciudad Satélite and Ciudad Nezahualcoyotl). We observed similar levels in both measures however, school students with lower social vulnerability report higher expectations about their level of study, better economic conditions and greater parental involvement, these results are statistically significant. Parental involvement was associated positively and significantly with school climate. The authors reflect on the findings and make proposals on some lines to follow in the investigation.
