Giant cells reparative granuloma of proximal phalange in first finger (clinical case presentarion)

ABSTRACT

Objective. Presentation of a primary bone tumor clinic case infrequent, located in finger phalanges of hand, corresponding to granuloma reparative of giant cells, diagnosis and treatment. Material and methods. The clinic and radiologic data file of a 74 years old patient with a tumor in first finger of left hand was analized. The patient was medical and surgical treated in Hospital Juárez de México on September 2004. with disability clinical features by increase volume and pain of thumb of left hand, radiologic presentation shows extensive bone destruction of thumb phalanges, initial radiologic assessment of giant cell tumor. Biopsy with fine needle type trucut was made, histologic diagnostic compatible with granuloma reparative of giant cells at absence of metastatic tumors. Gynecologic assessment negative to tumors, surgical treatment by thumb amputation was indicated by extensive bone destruction and pain, likewise by disability of the left thumb. Results. Revision of an infrequent primary bone tumor case compatible with granuloma reparative of giant cells of left thumb’s phalange, benign bone lesion, although with surgical indication by extensive bone destruction, pain and disability of the hand. The functional outcome was good. Conclusions. Infrequent primary bone tumor case, adequate assessment and diagnosis. Medical and surgical treatment fondness to international references. Useful to differential diagnosis of hand tumors.
