ABSTRACT

Arteriovenous fistulae are the method of choice in vascular access for patients in renal replacement therapy; proper preoperative evaluation and knowledge of good prognostic criteria lead to a better choice of arteries and veins for the creation and success of access. Also, post-operative evaluation to recognize the maturity of arteriovenous fistulae and their potential complications results in appropriate and functional vascular access. The method of choice for exploration is color Doppler ultrasound because it is non-invasive and available at any facility. The role of the radiologist is fundamental as an expert in evaluation of arteriovenous fistulae.
