ABSTRACT

Objective. To demonstrate the type of lesions of the temporary lobe in patients with complex partial epileptic crises for IRM.
Material and methods. The study is descriptive and prospective. Carried out in the Military Central Hospital, it included all ages and sexes, 51 patiens with clinical diagnosis of complex partial epileptic crisis of the temporary lobe, registered in external consultation at the Service of Neurology from November 1, 2002 to November 31, 2003.
Results. Of the study group (51), the morphological alterations of the temporary lobe: mesial sclerosis 28%, atrophies of the hippocampus 17%, aracnoid cyst 17%, cisticercosis 11%, cortical displasia 7%, ischemic heart attack 4%, gliosis 4%, arterio-venous malformation of the type angioma venous 4%, lipoma 4%, inflammatory type encephalitis herpetica 4%. 57% was located in left temporary lobe, 21% in right temporary lobe and 21% bilateral.
Conclusions. The morphological alterations and injure of the temporary lobe in patient with complex partial epileptic crisis identified by IRM were of 55%. The method of study ideal to determine alterations in the temporary lobe is the IRM.
