ABSTRACT

Palmar hyperhidrosis is a common problem that appears since childhood, causes low self-esteem and difficults to socialize, so that it can elicit an impaired quality of life. The treatment can be complicated because the pharmacological approach has a poor yield, an alternative in the treatment is the bilateral toracoscopic sympathectomy. The goal of this report is to present the results of this technique in 4 patients intervened during years 2012 to 2015 at Hospital Civil de Guadalajara. All of the patients were operated using general anesthesia in a single surgical procedure, there weren't any complications during the transoperative or postsurgical time. The patients were evaluated during the first 24 hours after surgery and they were discharged the following day, with a control revision at 7 and 30 days and 6 and 12 months. The patients reported minimum pain that was adequately controlled by taking oral analgesics, as well as an improvement in their quality of life. The results from this work allowed us to corroborate the safety and reproducibility of the bilateral toracoscopic sympathectomy in the treatment of palmar hyperhidrosis, with an adequate outcome.
