ABSTRACT

The sarcoma was first described in 1911, by Dr. Fancis Peyton Rous, when he conducted a study in poultry. Since its discovery, sarcoma has become a medical enigma, regardless of the tissue from which it originates. Its nonspecific symptoms and rapid progression of the disease symbolize a challenge for doctors around the world, even today. We present the case of a 30- year-old male patient with repeated hemorrhagic pericardial effusions, in whom an exploratory sternotomy was performed as a surgical resource due to uncertainty in the definitive diagnosis, establishing a pericardial sarcoma as a histopathological diagnosis. This is a very infrequent tumor in international and national literature.
