ABSTRACT

The transposition of large vessels is a cardiac defect that occurs in which the aorta and the pulmonary artery are exchanged (transposed). We present the clinical case of a pregnant woman, of 22 weeks, who in the ultrasound of screening carried out in her health area suspected the presence of transposed vessels, which was concluded in the Provincial Center of Medical Genetics as a transposition of associated large vessels to a tubular hypoplasia of the aortic arch. The anatomopathological report confirmed the diagnosis associated with a preductal aortic coarctation in the fetus. The two defects are infrequent heart diseases, but the association of these two entities is even more rare, which reduces the survival rate. This study showed the presence of a hypoplastic vessel, from which the vessels of the neck originate and which corresponds to the ascending aorta. At the same time, it was evidenced that the aorta and pulmonary arteries, instead of crossing over, were in parallel. The early diagnosis of these entities allowed to provide an adequate genetic counseling to the couple who opted for the voluntary termination of the pregnancy.
