Sedentarism level and proposal physical-recreational intervention in public servants of Santa Rosa

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The sedentarism as a way of life that includes little physical activity, implies health problems and physical-recreational intervention programs adapted to socio-cultural requirements to establish effectiveness in an intervention process. Objective: Determine of sedentarism level in public servants of Santa Rosa municipality (Ecuador), proposing a plan of physical and recreational activities adapted to needs of the sample studied. Methods: A sample of 54 public servants (31 women and 23 men) from Santa Rosa-Ecuador municipality was randomly selected, applying a survey of 13 questions to determine key variables to be taken into account in the design of a physical-recreational plan to be proposed. Results: In the municipality there is no physical-recreational activity plan or physical-sport championships to combat sedentarism. On the other hand, more than 50 % of public officials present diseases related to physical inactivity, carrying out physical activities on little or no day of the week, besides requiring a plan of physical and recreational activities of a collective nature, including relatives and companions of work. Conclusions: A plan of physical and recreational activities was designed according to needs of the sample studied, which includes 12 recommendations based on diagnosis level of the sedentarism in public servants of the Santa Rosa municipality.
