ABSTRACT

Background: Closed nose-lip angle is a very frequent illness and its solution is surgical, thus, it must be solved at the same time than nasal area diseases.
Objective: To describe the results obtained with the use of perforated PTFE bars as a new resource in the nose-lip surgery.
Patients and methods: A descriptive, longitudinal and prospective study was carried out, in which the inclusion criterion was that patients had a diagnosis of deformation-nose, with closed nose-lip angle and rino-septumplasty. The independent variable was: patients with diagnosis of deformation-nose, with closed nose-lip angle and rino-septumplasty with perforated PTFE bars implant. The dependent variable was secondary rino-septumplasty results, evaluated with the pre- and post-operating measure, control extended 12 months. A statistical analysis described the patient’s distribution of sex and occupation. We evaluated by sex, mean and standard deviation of the age and the pre- and 12 month post-operating measure.
Results: Procedure was done in 100 patients (43 male). Tolerance to PTFE bars was of 100%.
Conclusions: The tolerance to perforated PTFE bars in the angle nose-lip surgery is excellent. The perforated PTFE are easy to maneuver and are a good resource.
