ABSTRACT

Corneal denervation compromises epithelial cicatrization and leads to chronic ulceration. With the absence of protective sensibility, even mild repetitive trauma events can origin blindness due to the chronic ulceration process in the cornea. The insensitive cornea can not be always successfully treated with corneal transplantation, as the new cornea could also be affected by the base disease.
We describe a brand new surgical procedure to treat corneal denervation. Satisfactory results have been encountered with the technique performed by the Ophthalmology and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery departments from Hospital General Dr. Manuel Gea González.
