ABSTRACT

The scientific contribution of Mexico to the health sciences field is incipient and limited. The purpose of this communication is to offer a situational diagnosis that includes an analysis and positive proposals in order to advance in the development of science in Mexico. To mention only few of the factors that influence the limited growth and development of health sciences research are, that public and academic authorities of higher education institutions ignore the nature of scientific research, the absence of research and graduate program policies, poor infrastructure investment and the lack of qualified personnel to attend specialized needs in this area. Key factors that contribute to the development of human resources in research and the generation of knowledge in health in our country are that higher education institutions must clearly define research and graduate program policies as well as the objectives and goals to be achieved.
