ABSTRACT

Chronic kidney disease is a public health problem throughout the world. In all countries of the world, there is an increasing incidence and prevalence of renal disease (at any stage and regardless of cause), with poor results and high cost. It is now recognized as one of the main causes of the burden of global morbidity. The costs of dialysis are high, even for rich countries, but they are prohibitive for many emerging economies. Renal transplantation is a therapy that improves long-term survival when compared to maintenance dialysis; It also expands access and reduces total costs for successful treatment of end-stage chronic kidney disease. Infections are a common cause of morbidity and mortality after transplantation, and the second leading cause of death in patients with functional allograft. This cross-sectional, observational study was carried out to characterize the infections in the kidney transplant patient at the R. A. Calderón Guardia Hospital from January 2010 to April 2016, and to have local information studies in this population. In the light of the results obtained, it was possible to determine, in comparison to the International Reports, that the Hospital RA Calderón Guardia, in terms of infections in renal transplant patients have a similar behavior to the international case series, having as main infections those that are presented Secondary to immunosuppression therapy.
