ABSTRACT

Introduction. Knowledge of the epidemiological profile of a clinical service brings several advantages to identify the characteristics of the population to which the service is provided. Aim. To know the epidemiological profile that keeps the population of patients who attended at Médica Sur Rehabilitation Medicine Service. Material and methods. Patients records were analyzed from January 1st to December 31st, 2011. Data were statistically analyzed with tests of central tendency and dispersion. Results. 1,155 records were included corresponding: 38.7% male and 61.3% female; the average age of the population was of 45 ± 18 years; ages included from 1 to 93 years. Discussion. The age distribution shows a population tending to an old age, unlike other rehabilitation centers in the country. Disorders treated have a muscle-skeletal origin; the most common condition is low back pain, followed by cervical sprain and ankle sprain. Patients over 59 years, suffer of muscleskeletal problems, with different distribution. Most of the patients attending the rehabilitation medicine service come from three of the sixteen political delegations of Mexico City. Conclusion. The purpose of the study was to obtain a preliminary profile of patients who assisted to rehabilitation medicine during 2011. It is necessary to continue accomplishing annual studies in order to obtain a more accurate profile.
