Non-specific low-back pain in caregivers of children with disabilities

ABSTRACT
Background: Lumbar pain is considered as one of the most frequent causes of medical consultation. Alters the normal performance of the people who suffer it and much more if it is related to the care of a disabled child since this includes physical, inadequate and maintained postures, all these factors are added the lack of knowledge of postural hygiene on the part of the caregiver.
Material and methods: Qualitative, non-experimental, retrospective and descriptive in caregivers of children with disabilities who attended the Service of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation of the Children’s Hospital «Dr. Roberto Gilbert Elizalde» of the city of Guayaquil during the period from January to December 2015.
Results: The 102 people with nonspecific low back pain designated the care of patients with disability the median age is 34, standard deviation is 5.29, mode 28 years, there is a higher prevalence of caregivers of the female gender with 89% as for the age distribution of the disabled patient, the maximum age was 15 years and the minimum age was less than 1 year, the fashion was 1 with a standard deviation of 3.74 and a median of 2.
Conclusion: Of the 102 caregivers analyzed, 92 belonged to the female gender, from them, 88 had nonspecific low back pain, 11 had permanent characteristics and 80 had intermittent characteristics.
