ABSTRACT

Introduction: The internal disorders of the temporomandibular joint are caused by an abnormal relationship between the condyle, the glenoid cavity, the eminence and the articular disc. Symptoms include pain, poor mouth opening, and loss of joint function. It causes disability and polypharmacy for the patient and generates high costs in the health sector. The objective of this study was to evaluate the administration of intra-articular growth factor-rich plasma (PRFC) to reduce painful symptoms. Material and methods: Report of a series of cases where, after the administration of PRFC, pain reduction, mouth opening and joint noises were evaluated at one month and four months postoperatively. Statistical analysis was used for frequencies and percentages in the case of the qualitative variables, in the quantitative average and standard deviation, for the inference was used for non-parametric dependent groups Chi square, Friedman test with a post hoc of U Wilcoxon, all with significance level of 0.05. Results: All cases presented improvement of symptomatology, pain was the only one with statistical significance (p ‹ 0.05). Discussion: Infiltration of PRFC into ATM compared to other therapies is as effective or more efficient than other non-surgical alternatives. Conclusion: Administration of intra-articular PRFC is an efficient therapy in pain reduction.
