ABSTRACT

Autoimmune hepatitis is a chronic hepatopathy of unknown origin, characterized by the presence of hypergammaglobulinemia and interface histology. Due to the absence of serological markers and the great heterogeneity of its clinical, laboratory and histological characteristics it is difficult to make a correct diagnosis. is pathology has a global distribution affecting any age, both sexes and all ethnic groups. Clinical manifestations may present as fulminant hepatitis. Due to its challenging diagnosis, autoimmune hepatitis should be considered as a differential diagnosis in all patients with chronic liver disease associated with negative viral serologies without metabolic or toxic disorders. is review allows medical personnel to be informed of the need to become familiar with this disease and thus make better diagnoses to benefit their patients.
