ABSTRACT

The genus Rickettsia is constituted by strictly intracellular bacteria morphologically they are pleomorphic: being found as bacilli or cocci, with gram staining they are poorly stained and are the cause of several epidemics worldwide and transmitted by hematophagous arthropods such as ticks, fleas, lice or Mites. The most recent report of these diseases is the Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever caused by Rickettsia rickettsii, among other types of Rickettsiae that have been reported in Mexico.
The present article is a review of basic concepts for the realization of an opportune diagnosis in the first level of attention, it is evident the underreporting that forces us to consider this group of emergent diseases of obligatory notification, as well as the conformation of a study network and report and mortality increased.
