ABSTRACT

Satisfaction with life is one of the fundamental components of subjective well-being whose origins in research date back to the 1980s. However, no empirical research on this topic has been carried out in Puerto Rico, nor has it been statistically analyzed sociodemographic characteristics in terms of satisfaction with life. The objective of this study was to evaluate whether there are significant differences in the levels of satisfaction with life based on certain sociodemographic variables such as age, gender, socioeconomic status, marital status, religion and academic preparation in a sample of 1,973 Puerto Rican adults. The results reveal statistically significant differences in the levels of satisfaction with life according to gender, academic preparation, income level and academic preparation. On the other hand, the results did not reflect significant differences according to age and religion. These findings shed light on the latent needs among Puerto Ricans that allow the innovation of future research in Puerto Rico.
