Orthodontic treatment of adult Class II, division 2 malocclusion patient: Case report

ABSTRACT

Class II division 2 malocclusion is characterized by retroclined maxillary incisors, deep bite, mandibular retrusion. Due to muscular hypertonicity the maxilla expresses a downward growth and the incisor a palatal inclination blocking the mandibular sagittal position and results in a deep bite that acts as a physical barrier. This case report shows a non extractions treatment and the usage of an anterior inclined bite plane as a removable functional appliance. A male adult patient, class II/2 maloclussion, overbite and overjet of 5 mm, dental crowding. Skeletal class I, maxillary vertical excess, proclined lower incisors. Convex profile, gummy smile. The aim of this article is to present a case of maloclussion class II division 2 in an adult patient that was satisfactory treat in a period of 19 months.
