ABSTRACT

Squamous Cell Oral Carcinoma (OCC) is the most common histological type of cancer in the oral cavity and its etiology is considered multifactorial due to the synergy of multiple risk factors. The global demographic and epidemiological transitions suggest an increase in cancer registry over the following decades. Objective. To report the frequency and stage of disease based on the regions of Jalisco. Methodology. The data were captured in the SPSS version 20 package and analyzed by descriptive statistics with measures of central tendency and frequencies. Odd Ratio (OR) and Chi-square tests were used to determine the risk and its significance between the advanced stages of the disease and the place of residence. Results. Patients who do not reside in the central region of the state of Jalisco have a higher risk factor to be diagnosed in a clinical stage of advanced disease having a poor prognosis in their disease. The attention in primary stages of the disease is a determining factor in the reduction of morbidity and mortality.
