ABSTRACT

In order to eradicate a disease globally, vaccination is the best way to prevent the transmission of infectious diseases. In Mexico, the National Survey 2012 showed a poor coverage with some vaccines in particular, but in the complete schemes, some age groups did not reach 50 percent.
Objective. To know the compliance vaccination by age group and noncompliance causes in children under 17 years old attend at a pediatric hospital.
Methods. Descriptive cross-sectional study. There were included children under 17 years old and companions who had their National Vaccination Card who were attended as outpatients from August to October 2015.
Results. 238 interviews were conducted, the average age of the children was 48 months (1-194), 50.4% were male, and 35% of the patients came from Mexico City. Most of patients were attended at Nephrology, Cardiology and Gastroenterology (42%) services. Compliance of complete schemes was 35.5%, being higher in children under one year (41.5%) and lower in those over 12 years old (23%). Compliance by vaccine was BCG 97%, HBV 83%, pentavalent 85%, rotavirus 63%, pneumococcus 76%, and MMR 73%. The main reasons for the non-compliance of the schemes were hospitalization, medical indication for no-vaccination, and lack of supply at the vaccination center. In adolescents, the HPV vaccine had a compliance of 66% in the first two doses and only 33% in the third.
Conclusion. In a third-level unit, compliance of vaccination schedules is low. A closer work is required between treating physicians and preventive medicine service.
