ABSTRACT
Introduction: This work is descriptive, qualitative and
aims to identify the variables that influence in a positive and
negative way the subjective aspect of patients who received a
kidney transplant from a deceased donor.
Methods: The study
consists of 11 participants, six women and five men between
the ages of 30 and 57 who received a kidney transplant from
a deceased donor from two months to four years prior to this
investigation; all subjects are assigned to UMAE Num. 14
«Adolfo Ruiz Cortines» of the Mexican Institute of Social
Security (IMSS) in the state of Veracruz, Mexico. A semistructured
individual interview was conducted with the
participants with emphasis on the following two questions:
do you think there was something that facilitated (helped) the
transplant process? And do you think there was something that
complicated (made difficult) the transplant process?
Results: The aspects that are reported as positive in the transplant
process are: family and friends, attitude, care/knowledge of
the body, medical personnel, God and altruism of the donor
family. On the contrary, the elements that made the transplant
difficult were: waiting time, period of major care, fear of losing
the kidney, high expectations, illness as a side effect of the
medication, refusal of family members to donate, job issues,
and surgical complications and pain.
Conclusion: There are subjective positive and negative factors that influence the
process of a deceased donor transplant.
