ABSTRACT

Involve students in the activities of a research group is an excellent recommendation to introduce them into the experimental field. What can be done when doesn’t exist infrastructure and there is an anti-experimental tradition? The answer was provided by teaching an Experimental Psychology course to the undergraduate students in three different semesters. According to EGRUL model instead of traditional RULEG, the course was developed carrying out nine studies, alternating them with the review of bibliographic materials to reinforce the knowledge. The experiments were carried out through the student´s collaboration. The general procedure was: (1) Participants were selected; (2) The groups were formed; (3) Observers received instructions and; (4) Each experiment was conducted by the teacher. When the experiment finished, the students were notified that the experiment was over and from then we were a research group. Then we proceeded to the data collection. Each participant would elaborate the graphs that would be analyzed and evaluated in the later session. Students were asked to describe sequentially what they had done. This helped to identify the technical vocabulary used. Having the experimental experience for the theoretical session’s students read the Campbell y Stanley related section. Accordingly, they described the experiment taking account the results and elaborate conclusions. At the end of the courses the students’ commentaries were positive in terms of their experimental psychology learning.
