ABSTRACT

The extra-situational substitution is one of the most widely used concepts in interbehavioral research in Mexico (see Padilla & Pérez, 2012), this notion is almost synonymous of the Referential Sustitutive Function, although the first one is presented as a conceptual advance and not merely a change of words. To stablish if the extra-situational substitution represents an advance in the behavior theory, in the present paper some observations about the way it has recently been characterized are made. In particular, its conceptual inconsistency with the initial formulation of Ribes and López (1985) is observed and the risk of damaging the necessary conceptual coherence that a theory of behavior should keep is emphasized. Finally, it insists on the convenience of exercising permanently the critical analysis, free of prejudices and dogmas.
