ABSTRACT

The detection of irregular antibodies (RAI) in donors with a history of alosensitization is important for transfusion safety. A retrospective study was conducted from July 2018 to January 2019 in which 9,056 samples from a total of 30,491 of female donors were analyzed. The samples were analyzed in automated gel column equipment; those with reactive results were studied with direct antiglobulin test and panels of known phenotype for antibody identification. In 1.27% (115 of 9,056) of donors was documented presence of alloantibody, the most frequent anti-Lea (20%), anti S, anti M and anti D (6.66% respectively). The presence of alloantibody in relation to the gestational antecedent shows that the largest number of cases (89%) was found with a history of 1 to 4 pregnancies. Given the clinical importance of the antibodies found, the detection of irregular antibodies in donors with a history of alosensitization is a contributing factor to transfusional safety.
