Factors that determine the lack of therapeutic adherence in patients with diabetes mellitus type 2: Case Family Medicine Unit 33, Tabasco, Mexico

ABSTRACT

Objective: To determine the factors that condition the lack of therapeutic adherence in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus of UMF No. 33 of Emiliano Zapata Tabasco. Material and methods: Cross-sectional, analytical, which included 129 patients from the Family Medicine outpatient clinic, with an average age of 57.76 years. The conditioning factors of lack of therapeutic adherence were evaluated in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Sociodemographic variables were obtained. level of knowledge, access to health services, user satisfaction, quality of life and pharmacological aspects, data collection was performed through a previously validated survey, variable analysis was performed with descriptive statistics, Chi square and formula no parametric of Kruskall Wallis through the statistical package SPSS for Windows. Results: Pearson’s Chi square comparison of therapeutic adherence and user satisfaction reported: (χ2 = 0.032 GL; 2 P = 0.98) adverse effect (χ2 = 13,012 GL 2 p; 0.001) and ANOVA of a therapeutic adherence factor and the following variables, socioeconomic level (F = 23,833 GL 2 p; 0.005), evolution of diabetes (F = 4.169 GL 2 p, 0.018). Conclusions: There is a high degree of adherence in hypoglycemic drugs and treatment with insulin but not in diet and exercise. Female gender, married marital status, means of urban origin, schooling with primary level, were the most frequent sociodemographic findings, of the previous socioeconomic level IV (Worker) influences the therapeutic adherence.
