ABSTRACT

Introduction: Dystrophic calcification is the most common type of calcinosis cutis. Calcium and phosphate levels in serum are normal and it appears due to some sort of damage or alteration in collagen, elastin or subcutaneous fat. Objective: To present the clinical case of dystrophic calcification in the parotid gland on a male, 10 years old patient. Clinical case: Male patient, 10 years old, presents an increase in volume to the level of the ramus of the jaw on the right side. It started after a traumatism that led to light swelling and increased progressively. Conclusion: The presence of calcification on the parotid region may be confused with other pathologies, which means it is necessary to collect all of the patient’s clinical data, laboratory and imaging studies, to be able to rule out any other traumatic, obstructive or infectious pathology. It is essential to understand each of the lesion’s physiopathology to obtain a correct diagnosis.
