ABSTRACT

This is a quantitative, cross-sectional, prospective and descriptive study that was carried out with the objective of identifying the level of self-perception of the theoretical and practical competencies of the seventh and eighth semester students of the UNAM Nursing Degree. Material and methods: Through an instrument consisting of 48 items measured on a Likert scale, ranging from beginner level to expert level. The data obtained were analyzed with the SPSS program, prior to the application of the instrument a pilot test was carried out in which a degree of reliability was obtained with Cronbach’s alpha of 0.95. The sample consisted of 152 nursing students of the 2014-2018 generation, of both sexes, both in the morning and afternoon sessions. Findings: Students generally perceive themselves at an efficient level in terms of theoretical-practical skills. Those who work in a clinical area consider that they have a higher level of experts compared to those who work in other areas. It was found that there is no difference between men and women on the degree of self-perception they possess. Conclusion: Students in nursing have the appropriate theoretical and practical knowledge and their self-perception is considered acceptable taking into account their academic training.
