ABSTRACT

Introduction: Sexual abuse (AS) is a form of violence to «human rights» that has serious consequences on the quality of life of people. People in the pediatric stage are more vulnerable because the exercise of autonomy is subrogated to adults. Objective: To identify the socio-demographic characteristics of minors and their families with suspected sexual abuse from a third-level hospital in Mexico City. Material and methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study conducted in a third-level pediatric hospital in Mexico City. The sociodemographic characteristics of the victims who were evaluated with probability of AS were recorded, and the characteristics of the possible aggressors were questioned. Descriptive statistics was used. Results: 42 referred minors with suspected AS were included, and 26 (61.9%) cases were legally reported. Women represented 64.3% of the total subjects included. Conjugal discord was found in 29 (69%) of the families. As for its aggressors, there was a family bond in 26.22%. Conclusions: In this population, women are more vulnerable, sexual assault was practiced in a dysfunctional family and the aggressors were mostly underage relatives.
