ABSTRACT

Objectives: To determine the state of oral health in patients with visual impairment. Material and methods: An observational, descriptive and transversal study, the population consisted of schoolchildren from the Centre for Integrated Care for the Blind and Visually Impaired; the sample size was 10 schoolchildren aged 6 to 8. An instrument was applied that assessed caries risk according to CAMBRA, O’Leary index that measured the oral hygiene status and level of knowledge to parents about oral health. Results: According to CAMBRA a 60% low caries risk was obtained. Subsequently, the degree of oral hygiene was measured where 50 per cent was found to be questionable and the remaining 50 per cent deficient. The questionnaire applied to parents was obtained a regular and good level of knowledge.
