Achilles’ tendon rupture rehabilitation

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The Achilles´ tendon is a common disease in the orthopedic rehabilitation services. Presents a relation men:women 12:1, 75% occurs in non professional athletes. Objective: The nowadays treatments are based on surgical reparation, with the application of a plaster cast for 6 weeks in equinous ankle position that’s why present discapacity. Our job after of surge is to use a plaster boot in a neutral position, searching for the best rehabilitation in the minor time. Material and methods: 112 patients with Achilles´ tendon rupture between 2000-2002 in the National Rehabilitation Institute, the surgical technique was terminal plasty and a plaster boot for 6 weeks. Initial rehabilitation, week 1-6, with joint mobilization, muscular strengthening, walking with crutches. On week 7-9, removal of the plaster cast boot, a 3 cm increment oh the shoe heel, therapeutic tank, walking reeducation labor integration week 10. Results: Masculine 77%, Feminine 23%, Injured mechanism 100% Sport, Average age, 34 years old, Metabolic alteration 100%, Complete mobility arch 100%, Normal muscular strength. Statistics: Test Z Student p ‹ 0.002. Discussion: The Achilles´ tendon rupture rehabilitation was directed to maintain of mobility arches, muscular strength and the retrain or the propulsion of the walking (Malt, Booth; Nistor 1990). Conclusion: The rehabilitation program obtained the functional recuperation of the patients, and the labor integration and sports in 10 weeks, too.
