ABSTRACT

Introduction: lung cancer is one of the first death causes, in Cuba. They appear in X-rays as rounded opacities less than 3 cm. Procedures are necessary to determine their benign or malign nature. Images characteristic research with computerized X-rays, recently installed in the institution are objectives of the Ministry of Public Health in Cuba.
Objective: to characterize incidental lung nodules in patients assisted at the Academic General Hospital Vladimir I. Lenin, Holguín, Cuba, from July to September 2017.
Method: a retrospective observational study based on 42 patients sample, with computerized X-rays incidental nodules, older than 35 without congestive vascular affection. Ethical principles were fulfilled.
Results: nodules were predominant in patients between 61 and 79 years old (50%) and the amount of male doubled feminine patients. The right lung was the most affected (64%), in the higher field (41%) in the peripheral area (60%) and in all locations size was less than 6 mm.
The subsolid nodules (n=64) were presented as grinding glass (67%), those in solid parts (33%), speculations in a 25%. About 40.4% of patients classified as high risk, 21.4% low risk and 38.1% intermediate risk.
Conclusions: nodules were identified by computerized X-rays nodules as very small and characterized according to recent imagenological classification, clinical aspects and epidemiological antecedents, including smoking habit allowed risk cancer contrast in lung nodule incidental bearer.
