ABSTRACT

Irritable bowel syndrome (ibs) is a chronic disease that affects gastrointestinal function and requires significant demand for medical care; its incidence increases depending on lifestyles and other comorbidities. Currently the therapeutic approach should be done comprehensively by carrying out adequate monitoring and treatment. The objective of this review is to make known the risk factors, symptomatology and treatment used for this syndrome, with the purpose of strengthening its multidisciplinary approach and improving the quality of life of patients.
