Initial assessment of the patient with syncope

ABSTRACT

Syncope is a dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system that is characterized by the loss of vasoconstrictor tone, and is classified into three major causes. Its high prevalence currently generates a certain degree of uncertainty, mainly in the recognition of patients with life-threatening etiologies. That´s why the importance of a detailed initial assessment of syncope by the attending physician, in order to identify the underlying cause of the syncopal episode for its precise approach.
