ABSTRACT

With respect to the article “Imprint of the sick child in Western painting” published in Volume 13, Number. 1 (January-April) of 2018, in which the works of important artists are described, motivated my interest when referring to the painting “The sick child”. The article mentions an epidemic of plague in the city of Amsterdam that is an infectious agent of the bacillus Yersenia pestis. This is transmitted by bites from infected fleas, known as bubonic plague. In the aforementioned painting by the painter Gabriel Metsu, exactly the signs of this disease are described.
