ABSTRACT

Odontogenic tumors are a group of lesions exclusively found in the maxillomandibular region. Accurate clinical, radiographic and microscopic diagnosis are very important since their treatment and prognosis have important clinical implications. It is presented a retrospective study based on 2,859 biopsies from a Diagnosis Unit in Puebla, Pue. Mexico. Odontogenic tumors represented 0.24% of the sample and cystic ameloblastoma was the most frequently found odontogenic tumour (57.1%). Clinical-radiographic and microscopic features, treatment and prognosis are discussed and the importance of the accurate diagnosis of ameloblastoma is pointed out.
