Hemolytic uremic syndrome and fulminant hepatic failure by Streptococcus pneumoniae

ABSTRACT

We present the case of a 23-month-old preschool with complicated pneumonia who developed hemolytic uremic syndrome associated with fulminant liver failure. The patient died five days after admission. The etiological agent was Streptococcus pneumoniae, which is very rare in this syndrome.
