ABSTRACT

Objective: To report a case of severe right ventricular failure treated successfully with mechanical cardiac support (MCS).
Design: Case report.
Setting: A tertiary care hospital, Mexico City.
Patient: A 73-yr-old patient with history of ischemic cardiopathy developed severe right ventricular failure following replacement of aortic valve.
Interventions: Right ventricular assistance. Results: Satisfactory resolution of heart failure was obtained and MCS was discontinued four days later.
Conclusion: Mechanical cardiac assistance can be a good alternative procedure for the treatment of poscardiotomy severe right ventricular failure.
