ABSTRACT
Introduction: Colovesical fistulas are an infrequent entity and consist of an abnormal communication between the colon and the urinary bladder. Diagnosis is made by computed tomography. Standard treatment focuses on resection of the involved portion of the colon, and repair of the bladder if necessary.
Material and methods: We carried out a retrospective descriptive and observational study of 10 patients between 2016 and 2020 with the diagnosis of colovesical fistula.
Results: An average age of 61.2 years was obtained, 70% of the patients were diagnosed by abdominal pelvic CT and the remaining 30% required other studies to reach the diagnosis; 100% underwent laparoscopic sigmoidectomy with mechanical colorectal anastomosis, there was no conversion, no additional procedure was performed on the bladder, and 30% of the patients present in the anastomosis dehiscence, so they had to undergo surgery and perform a colostomy.
Conclusions: Laparoscopic treatment of colovesical fistula is a viable option; the primary anastomosis does not increase morbidity and mortality. Repair of the bladder side of the fistula must comply with the clinical scenario.
