A comparative study of three devices to prevent the hypothermia in patients undergoing plastic surgery

ABSTRACTHypothermia is the most common disorder during anesthesia and surgery. The combination of induction, exposure to low temperatures in the operating room, ventilation with cold gases, procedures and long surgical times predispose patients to hypothermia. Have used various devices and measures for prevention of hypothermia in surgical patients. Objective: To determine which of the three devices to prevent hypothermia is produced by small changes in core temperature in patients undergoing plastic surgery. Material and methods: We studied a total of 68 patients divided into 4 groups: control, artificial nose, with heated intravenous fluids and thermal blanket. Results: The average temperature of each group with standard deviation and the decrease of temperature with respect to baseline Through time, being statistically significant for T1NA (p = 0.03), T1H (p = 0.007) and T1ST (p = 0.02); T2NA (p = 0.02), T2H (p = 0.001) and T2ST (p = 0.01); T3ST (p = 0.03). Conclusions: Our study confirms the usefulness of any of the three devices. Thermal blanket was the device that was smaller decrease on the basal temperature.
