ABSTRACT
Hair is an annex of the skin that covers most of the body surface, and its growth, size and quantity are influenced by a great number of factors, the hormonal being the most important one. For many people, excess hair is considered an aesthetic problem, for that reason, its removal has evolved from the oldest methods of shaving and depilation to laser depilation. Current equipment acts by selective photothermolysis. The objective of this paper is to present the efficiency of the Diode Laser for the elimination of body hair and to report our experience. Three hundred and ninety one records of the patients treated at Laser Integral Clinic (Medica Sur) during the period from November 2001 to December 2004, were reviewed considering: age, sex, skin type, body area and each patient’s response to the treatment. A satisfactory response was obtained in 97% of the cases. Treatment with the Diode Laser is safe and effective. The number of sessions depends on hair thickness, color, body area and associated hormonal alterations. With an average of 7 sessions, adverse effects are scanty and easily reversible constituted principally by alterations of hypo and hyperpigmentation.REFERENCES
